Celebrity Rehab star and country singer Mindy McCready made headlines last week for allegedly kidnapping her own son, Zander, away from her mother, who has legal custody of the boy. McCready gave an interview to ABC’s 20/20 on Friday to tell her side of the story and clear her name of the kidnapping charges. She defends herself, saying “I’m not a kidnapper. I’m not an unfit mother. I’m not a drug addict. I’m not an alcoholic. I’m none of these things that have been said about me.” McCready goes on in detail about her struggle to regain custody of Zander and how both the child and her grandmother consider McCready’s mother, Gayle Inge, to be abusive and unfit to care for him. Inge denies the allegations.

The third installment of Celebrity Rehab Revisited, which will air this Sunday night at 9 p.m. catches up with several cast members from season three of the show. Coincidentally, we have an update on one member of that cast who isn’t profiled in the episode, Mindy McCready, who happens to be in the news this week for some family drama. McCready is facing some possible legal trouble after violating a custody arrangement and refusing to return her five-year-old son, Zander, to her mother, who is the boy’s legal guardian. McCready took the boy from her father’s home in Florida during a visit this week and brought him to Tennessee. In a letter she wrote on Thursday to the Associated Press, she explained “I’m doing all this to protect Zander, not stay out of trouble. I don’t think I should be in trouble for protecting my son in the first place.” McCready claims that her mother abused the child and that taking him away was for his own protection. The boy is now considered a missing person and a judge has issued an emergency pickup order for police to retrieve him and bring him back to his grandmother. McCready, who is currently expecting twins, claims she is unable to bring her son back to Florida because she can’t travel due to her pregnancy.

The boy’s father, Billy McKnight, says that he gave up a portion of his visitation with Zander so that McCready could see him this week. “I gave up my weekend to be cool, and it backfired on me,” he told the New York Daily News. “The judge gave her 90 days to complete her case plan and prove she’s responsible enough to raise a child. She needed some drug screening, parenting courses and to be a part of the solution. But she took biggest risk of all and left the state.” McKnight says he has spoken to both McCready and his son and he says the boy “sounded healthy and ok. He wasn’t crying or scared.”

Though her future is unclear, McCready might face criminal charges for taking the child. This story seems to change by the minute so we’ll keep you updated as it unfolds.

UPDATE: CNN reports that McCready and her son Zander were found on Saturday by police. Zander was taken into protective custody after the two were discovered hiding in a closet in a home in Heber Springs, Arkansas. McCready’s mother Gayle, who is Zander’s legal guardian, said “We feel sorrow for Zander because he’s traumatized, and for Mindy. We just hope she does the right thing from here on out and that this is a wake-up call for her.” [CNN]

Last week we got to see the Mob Wives all decked out in their Halloween best, and this weekend, the rest of the VH1 talent pool followed suit. We pulled the best pics and most impressive costumes from all of our favorite VH1 stars, past and present, for you to see. There were a couple of variations on Catwoman, a Superman, some wild animals, and of course, a lot of skimpy, sexy looks. Let us know which costume is your favorite in the comments!

Terrible news to pass along. TMZ is reporting that Mike Starr, former Alice in Chains bassist and cast member on Celebrity Rehab 3 and Sober House 2, has passed away at the age of 44. His cause of death is currently unknown, but it’s worth noting that Starr was arrested in Salt Lake City last month for possession of a controlled substance.

As we saw during the third season of Celebrity Rehab, Starr continued to harbor enormous feelings of guilt and regret over the death of his friend and Alice in Chains bandmate, Layne Staley, up until the time of his passing.

We’ll continue to share more information with you as soon as it comes in.

Celebrity Rehab 4 is almost here! The show is set to premiere on-air on Wednesday, December 1 at 10 p.m., but we’re going to give you a sneak peak of the show’s first episode here on VH1.com next Friday, November 26. Yes, that’s right, as you’re recovering from next Thursday’s tryptophan-induced food coma on your couch, you can fire up your computer and watch the likes of Eric Roberts, Janice Dickinson, Rachel Uchitel and Jason “Gummy Bear” Davis quarrel even more than you did at Thanksgiving dinner the previous night with your uppity Great Aunt Bertha. Here’s a press release about the show and this special online sneak that just hit the wires…

Dr Drew’s hit VH1 reality series Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew checks back into rehab for a fourth season. The series, consisting of nine one-hour episodes, is slated to premiere December 1 at 10PM*.

Season four of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew will follow the real-life experiences of eight diverse celebrity patients undergoing an intensive 21-day detoxification and treatment program at the Pasadena Recovery Center. As they each struggle with their own demons in their quest to get well they must also do this amongst some other very strong personalities who create more hurdles for each other than a helping hand. The cast, many who have been recent tabloid fodder even while they were in rehab includes: Eric Roberts (The Expendables), Jeremy London (Party of Five, 7th Heaven), Rachel Uchitel (Infamous Party Planner), Janice Dickinson (The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency), Leif Garrett (Musician), Frankie Lons (Keyshia Cole’s Mother), Jason Wahler (The Hills) and Jason Davis (Socialite).

TMZ reports that Kari Ann Peniche is following up her abbreviated stints on Sex Rehab with Dr. Drew, Celebrity Rehab 3 and Sober House with Dr. Drew with a non-televised round of rehab. Word is that she checked into a 30-day, high-end rehabilitation program last night to treat her meth addiction, which plagued her through much of her time on televised rehab. On her joining the cast of Sober House, Dr. Drew told us in March:

“She is crazy on meth. She’s really bad. At that point, I was not clear that she was appropriate for this level of care. I had grave doubt.”

We applaud her for seeking a higher level of care and wish her the best.

In other Rehab-related news, Celebrity Rehab 2 alum Rodney King is set to marry Cynthia Kelley, a juror who helped award him his $3.8 million payout in a civil case against the city of Los Angeles after his 1991 police-beating. And in other Dr. Drew news, Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution is pitching a talk-show to networks featuring the doctor that would air starting fall 2011. [TMZ, RadarOnline.com, MediaPost]

In the clip above, the perpetually magnetic Frankie Lons, who we seriously cannot wait to watch on Celebrity Rehab 4, talks about what led up to her decision to enroll in televised treatment with Dr. Drew. Her drunken displays, it turns out, were “ruining Frankie and Neffie’s show.” Reality TV often begets reality TV (people on it almost always want more), but rarely in this proactive sort of way. Good for her! She also gives shout outs to Dr. Drew and Janice Dickinson, whom she says she clashed with while filming the show. This is amazing news — reality TV perhaps has not yet seen the level of epic that a Janice versus Frankie battle promises.

Rehab Roundup

rehab4_ericrachel

E! Online caught up with Eric Roberts fresh out of Celebrity Rehab 4 (it wrapped filming earlier this week) at the Hollywood premiere of The Expendables (a film he appears in). Roberts was experiencing something he hadn’t before: red-carpet sobriety. “I have never walked down a red carpet without being stoned in my life until tonight,” he reported. And, as everyone knows, the red carpet is exactly the place where you measure progress in Hollywood.

Meanwhile, don’t expect to hear Rachel Uchitel spilling (more of) the beans on her high-profile affair with Tiger Woods during the show. TMZ reports that mentioning him publicly is off-limits, per her $10 million settlement with the star golfer.

Finally, as they have throughout the filming (presumably via internal sources), Radar has posted spoilers of sorts regarding the show’s graduation ceremony. Included in their write-up are some Rehabbers’ plans for continuing care, though it’s not yet known if that pertains to another, as-yet-unannounced season of Sober House. Recounting this and all other Radar information on the turf of the network that hasn’t even gotten to air the show yet hasn’t seemed appropriate, and that’s why we held off. But who are we to keep you from reading it? [E! Online, TMZ, Radar]
