Rehab Roundup

rehab4_ericrachel

E! Online caught up with Eric Roberts fresh out of Celebrity Rehab 4 (it wrapped filming earlier this week) at the Hollywood premiere of The Expendables (a film he appears in). Roberts was experiencing something he hadn’t before: red-carpet sobriety. “I have never walked down a red carpet without being stoned in my life until tonight,” he reported. And, as everyone knows, the red carpet is exactly the place where you measure progress in Hollywood.

Meanwhile, don’t expect to hear Rachel Uchitel spilling (more of) the beans on her high-profile affair with Tiger Woods during the show. TMZ reports that mentioning him publicly is off-limits, per her $10 million settlement with the star golfer.

Finally, as they have throughout the filming (presumably via internal sources), Radar has posted spoilers of sorts regarding the show’s graduation ceremony. Included in their write-up are some Rehabbers’ plans for continuing care, though it’s not yet known if that pertains to another, as-yet-unannounced season of Sober House. Recounting this and all other Radar information on the turf of the network that hasn’t even gotten to air the show yet hasn’t seemed appropriate, and that’s why we held off. But who are we to keep you from reading it? [E! Online, TMZ, Radar]

Actor Eric Roberts, who appeared in The Dark Knight and the Showtime series Crash and is Julia Roberts‘ brother, took to Twitter to talk about enrolling in the fourth season of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew:

The “weed garden” reference seems to be a reference to marijuana dependency (his wife confirmed as much to E! News). The news of Eric joining the show leaked last week courtesy of fellow Rehabber Jeremy London, who spoke to Radar from the Pasadena Recovery Center in an interview that was not authorized by VH1.

In this outtake from Courtney Love‘s Behind the Music, she calls VH1′s own Dr. Drew a “great doctor,” but takes issue with his detoxing methods. She thinks he’s too harsh. Since she’s a medical professional and all, her argument carries a lot of merit, obviously.

But whatever, revoke her medical license and give this woman a degree in talking — the bonus clips from the episode, which run the gamut from her talking about bristling when people compliment her on Nirvana to the origin of her name to her Neil Young epiphany, are uniformly fascinating. When Courtney Love isn’t around, pop culture feels so empty.

Celebrity Rehab 3 ‘s Mindy McCready suffered a possible drug overdose this week. An overdose report came Tuesday morning, according to a Florida sheriff’s office, but Mindy was already home that night. Her brother Josh McCready said the incident was a misunderstanding. “She is fine and back at home with my mother. It was by far over a huge exaggeration,” he said. [AP/Huffington Post via ONTD]

After the news broke this weekend, Tila Tequila took to her newly founded gossip blog to announce to the world that she plans to join the cast of Celebrity Rehab 4. I think if we’ve learned anything from pop culture so far it’s that something isn’t true unless Tila Tequila says it is. She writes:

“I KNOW I am an EXTREMELY smart girl, and to run all these empires when I am not even 30 yet, is quite an accomplishment, however I finally admitted to myself that I cannot rely on taking prescription pills everyday for the rest of my life! I didn’t spend my heart and soul into building this extremely successful website, invest every last ounce of money into it, and believe me, a site like this plus staff is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE!” [all sic, naturally]

And since you obviously love her so much and want nothing more than to watch her all the time, you’ll be elated to hear that she already has her sights set on a spin-off:

“…Our OMG sources found out that if I do well on “CELEBRITY REHAB” and continue to stay sober, that VH1 May pick up my OWN SPIN OFF SHOW ABOUT MY LIFE SOBER NOW AND HOW I CAN HANDLE BEING A MOGUL, AND STILL TRY TO MEET THE LOVE OF MY LIFE! IT’s gong to be very raw and real.” [sic strikes again!]

If you know anything about Tila’s, erm, aesthetic, you could guess that this announcement post of hers prattles on and on, addressing haters multiple times, asserting MissTilaOMG!’s legitimacy and calling on her “TILA ARMY” to hold it down for her while she’s in the not-so-big house. Let’s hope that pills aren’t the source of these online rants of hers. I’d hate to see her wild writing change — it’s kind of what she has going for her at this point. [MissTilaOMG!]

Dr. Drew took to Twitter to counter TMZ’s report that the Celebrity Rehab 4 producers were having a hard time casting the show. Addiction/recovery enthusiasts, breathe your sighs of relief.

VH1 At The Upfronts

vh1_upfronts

VH1 threw its upfronts presentation on Tuesday and New York to announce its slew of new shows. Many of the channel’s best and brightest from its current and upcoming programming lineup were on hand (including the Norwoods, Tough Love CouplesSteve and JoAnn Ward, Dr. Drew, The T.O. Show cast, Jessica Simpson’s The Price of Beauty cast, Fantasia and more). Check pictures below of the festivities!

VH1′s pace is set to prove unrelenting this year with the launch of a slew of new shows, events, Behind the Music entries and Rock Docs. Info on it all — from the second seasons of Fantasia for Real and Scream Queens to new series starring Dr. Drew and Eva Longoria to specials featuring Christina Aguilera and 50 Cent to new VH1 Divas and Hip Hop Honors concerts — can be found in the press release below.

VH1 will produce a record 44 original series in 2010 to further build on the network’s connection to young adults and their hunger for programming centered around music, celebrity and real life stories.

Year-to-date, VH1 has launched 18 series – eight of those projects are brand new original franchises featuring such new faces to the channel as Jessica Simpson, Grammy Award-nominated Fantasia Barrino, and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas from TLC, one of the biggest-selling groups of all time, and Grammy Award-winning artist Brandy. Later in the year, VH1 will introduce more new faces such as NFL player Chad Ocho Cinco as well as shows demonstrating additional formats including VH1 Dad Camp and The OCD Project. VH1 also continues to develop the previously announced scripted movie from Academy Award-nominated and Grammy and Golden Globe winner Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment.

VH1’s programming build-out reflects the network’s commitment to its adult audience and what they want to see now on the network. To understand the “core of its core” audience, the network did an extensive study focusing on what VH1 calls “Gen Mix” – the young adults who make up the tail-end of Generation X and the very beginning of Gen Y or the Millennials, covering the ages between 25 and 34.

Dr. Drew and VH1′s Celebrity Rehab franchise took over The View today, on a special episode about women with addiction. On hand were Celebrity Rehab 3‘s Mindy McCready and Mackenzie Phillips (rocking her $50,000 makeover), Sex Rehab‘s Jennie Ketcham and Sober House‘s house leader Jennifer Gimenez. I was also there to snap some pictures and get the behind-the-scenes dirt, although there wasn’t much of the latter to be had. I guess the less dirt the better for anyone, especially recovering addicts. Everyone looked great, though (I can only assume that watching yourself in treatment can be very upgrade-inspiring), and everyone was completely approachable and friendly. I sat down for an impromptu interview with Mackenzie, which she agreed to on the spot (that will run later this week), talked blogging with Jennie (who regularly shares her life and thoughts on Becoming Jennie) and finally got to meet the remarkably warm Jenn, whom I’ve spoken to every week Sober House has been on since the beginning but only today got to meet.

In all, it was a nice time. Check the gallery below for proof, but before that, check out this clip from the taping, in which Drew handles the question of exploitation that seems to pop up almost every time anyone talks to him about these shows. The answer he gives is not only succinct, it’s pragmatic.

Also on hand were reps from the Partnership for a Drug Free America (see the gallery below). Drew showed off the Rx Locker, a product he endorses. Finally, behind-the-scenes shots are below!

Dr. Drew recently told People.com that he extended an invitation to Corey Haim to help with the actor’s ongoing struggle with drug use, but that Corey never got back to him. Drew says Corey “wasn’t embracing treatment in any real way” and specifically told Celebrity Rehab producers that he didn’t need help. “He’s dead. Do you need to know anything more?” says Drew.
