2010: The Year In Posts

2010_posts

To wrap up our look back at 2010, here’s a brief list of the most satisfying posts that ran on this blog this year. You can probably imagine that working at VH1 puts a person in touch with extreme personalities on a regular basis. Though that is amusing enough to get you through your day, it’s always nice when content you’re proud of as a blogger comes with it. Below are six such instances…

The focus of Let’s Talk About Pep will always be Pep, of course. But much of the show’s best moments come via Pep’s longtime friend Kittie. Seven episodes in, and Kittie’s had her toes sucked by an entrepreneur with a strong foot fetish, she’s had her heart broken by a guy she first met online three years ago, and she’s kept her dates —and her friends’ dates—in check. Her fierce loyalty to her friends is completely real: Kittie says she’s known Pep so long — over 10 years — so she still prefers to call her Sandy.

Below Kittie talks about the show, her moving back to New York, and her philosophy on dating.

When Kittie thinks you have gone too far, you have gone too far.

Pep’s still got her four years of celibacy intact. And she’ll drink to that.

“I ain’t getting none, nobody getting none,” Pep declared at the beginning of this episode. And for better or worse, it held true for her and friends Kittie, Jacque, and Joumana until the end of the show. But there was much hilarity in between.

The above quote was really directed at Kittie, who just moved in with Pep. Pep laid down one rule for her new houseguest: “You do you…but I don’t want nobody doin’ it in here.” Fair enough. But Kittie had a way around the rules.

phonesexShe did her.

Garbage Men (Need Love Too)

It was a good week for bad boys on the most recent episode of Let’s Talk About Pep. First there was Joumana’s tatted-up date, Cory, who had a little run-in with the law, and then there was a shorty who goes by the name of “Animal” that Pep and Kittie salivated over at the end of their “cutie run.” So what if they discovered him picking up trash? As an NYC resident, I can assure you that the city is infested with good-looking garbage man. They are truly New York’s foinest.

Exclusive video interview with Pepa

Pepa recently stopped by our office, and oh my god this interview was so much fun. Above, we talk bout Let’s Talk About Pep, her new reality show, and the years of celibacy she brought to it. Below, pretty much the best thing that ever happened to me is caught on tape: after some talk about Pep’s pop-culture longevity, together, she and I rap the first verse of Salt-N-Pepa’s 1990 hit “Expression,” and nail it on the first take. As someone who’s loved Salt-N-Pepa for the majority of my life, this was a dream come true.
