It’s coming down to wire, folks. The 2007 World Series of Pop Culture ends on Thursday, and the competition is (in the most non-pejorative sense of the word) fierce. In the two rounds last night, there was only one winner. Almost Perfect Strangers 2.0 beat Remo-Leen-Teen-Teen, but Wocka Wocka and Team Motherboy (pictured above) held each other to a tie. The trivia battle continues tonight at 9 p.m. on VH1. For more in-depth coverage, check the blog over at World of Pop. And remember: You stay classy, Planet Earth.
The competition for who would continue their quest for pop-culture glory continued last night as the trivia in the 2007 World Series of Pop Culture heated up. In the first round, Twisted Misters (pictured above) battled Fragilay and took home the glory. In the second, 3 Men and a Little Lazy kicked Westerburg High summarily off the stage. For more in-depth coverage, check the World of Pop blog and test your pop-culture mettle with one of our games. And don’t forget to tune in to VH1 tonight at 9 p.m. to watch the action continue. You’ll be smarter if you do.
Speaking to VH1 News on the red carpet outside the ESPY Awards, basketball giant LeBron James let it slip that he’s a Simpsons fan. He likes Bart, apparently, because Bart doesn’t follow anyone’s rules but his own. Let that be a lesson, NBA. For more exclusive event madness, check our Red Hot Red Carpet section now.
Last night saw yet another evening of intense trivia from the 2007 World Series of Pop Culture. In the first round, Wocka Wocka took on They’re Real & They’re Spectacular — and kicked some serious ass. In the second, El Chupacabra failed to dominate Fragilay and were promptly booted from the stage. Pop culture is brutal, yo. For all your in-depth recapping needs, check the most excellent World of Pop blog and test your own knowledge with some of their games. And remember, the action continues Monday night at 9 p.m. on VH1. Get nerdy!
And now, a special dispatch fromWorld of Popblogger Mark Graham:
Back in February, over 10,000 people tested their Pop Culture Intelligence Quotient (PCIQ) at VH1.com. Of all those entrants, three complete strangers were chosen to compete in the 2007 World Series of Pop Culture for their extremely high scores and trivia fortitude. Tod, Kyle and Lucien are the savants that make up Almost Perfect Strangers 2.0. In the first match of last night’s competition, they took on the Truffle Shuffles (pictured above, hailing from New York, by way of Florida) — and won.
And now, a special dispatch from World of Pop blogger Mark Graham: After an incredibly well-mannered first episode of the 2007 World Series of Pop Culture, you gotta love how last night’s episode took a turn for the trashier. In the first matchup (pictured above), Jammin’ on the 1 talked all kind of pre-game trash to the Twisted Misters, but in the end the Misters prevailed. The second pairing of the evening saw Virginia’s Lucky Stars take on Chicago’s bathrobe-clad trivia warriors, 3 Men and a Little Lazy. The 3 Men extinguished those Lucky Stars, big time. To get the full scoop, check out the complete recaps of both episodes over at the World of Pop blog!
In last night’s premiere of the second season of VH1 and Entertainment Weekly‘s World Series of Pop Culture, winners were crowned and losers were booted from the stage. The first two teams to go head-to-head were Chicago’s Fat Guys in Little Coats against Austin’s Team Motherboy, and The White Russians from Louisville against Portland, Oregon’s, Remo-Leen-Teen-Teen. (Check the tournament chart here.) As benevolent host and sometime Canadian news anchor Pat Kiernan watched, Team Motherboy mopped the floor with the Fat Guys (pictured above), and Remo-Leen-Teen-Teen basically killed The White Russians. It wasn’t pretty, but that’s pop culture.
Tonight at 9 p.m. on VH1 is the premiere of the second season of VH1 and Entertainment Weekly‘s World Series of Pop Culture. Before then, you can get all the skinny on the show at www.worldofpop.com. And you can prep by playing VH1′s World Series of Pop Culturetrivia game, which is terribly difficult, and makes us cry bitter tears of trivia-junkie frustration. Which team are you going to root for? 3 Men and a Little Lazy? They’re Real and They’re Spectacular? Wocka Wocka? We were going to make up our own team and play at home, but then we realized that that sounded like too much work and decided to just kick back and watch the tube like civilians.
Can you name 10 of the $100-million-plus grossing movies to star Tom Hanks? (Hint: Forget about Joe vs. the Volcano.) Do you lie awake nights reviewing the lyrics to Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire”? Are you obsessed with all of Madonna’s former flings — including the one she had with JFK Jr.? If so you’ll thrill to the second season of VH1 and Entertainment Weekly‘s World Series of Pop Culture, the on-air tournament competition that separates the nerds from the know-it-alls. The first episode of the new season airs this Sunday at 11 p.m. Before then, you can get all the skinny on the show at www.worldofpop.com. And you can prep by playing VH1′s World Series of Pop Culturetrivia game, which is harder than you’d think, frankly, and actually makes us shout insults at our computer screens. But we’re sore losers. Are you?
