On May 1, VH1 will be premiering a new film from its Rock Docs series, entitled UPRISING: Hip Hop And The L.A. Riots. For anyone who lived through the 1992 L.A. riots that resulted after the beating of Rodney King, you will be completely transported back to the time when the entire country felt that justice had not been served, and unrest was at its peak. To anyone who wasn’t around at the time, the parallels that can be drawn between what happened then and what’s been happening today in the news are undeniable. UPRISING focuses not just on the news of that day, but how it affected and directly influenced hip hop as we know it. Watch the trailer for the film, which is narrated by Snoop Dogg, above, and tune in on May 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT for one of our most stunning docs yet.

We’ve already shown you a clip from the upcoming VH1 Roc Docs special The TRL Decade in which Carson Daly talks about the time a teenage Lady Gaga tried to visit him in the TRL studio. In yet another teaser from the documentary, airing Sunday night, January 29 at 9:30pm ET/PT, we bring you one more great moment from behind the scenes at the show. In it, Method Man talks about the time he complimented Britney Spears on her posterior. Brit’s reaction is classic.

It’s easy to forget that TRL was more than a show where tweens would make their parents drag them to Times Square on a pilgrimage to run their vocals ragged, screaming for their favorite stars. TRL was a defining show for MTV, popular music and kids of a certain generation. It’s also easy to forget the caliber of celebrities that appeared on the show, which ran from 1998-2008. Madonna, Tom Cruise, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, hell, even Angelina Jolie, they all appeared on the show often. In honor of the new VH1 Rock Doc The TRL Decade, which airs January 29, we’d like to take a look back at the VJ’s who made the show what it was, and the celebrities that came down to 1515 Broadway to hang with them. (We invite you to take a closer look at the photo on the upper left in our gallery — yes, that is indeed Destiny’s Child, Eve, 3LW, and Dream hanging with Carson Daly.) And of course, check out the documentary when it airs on Sunday January 29 at 9:30 pm ET/PT.

MTV’s Total Request Live was a huge part of our youth, and in this clip from the upcoming VH1 Rock Doc The TRL Decade, Carson Daly talks about how important the show was to aspiring musician Lady Gaga, too. Daly explains that during a recent interview with Gaga, she admitted that when she was a teenager, she and her friends went to Times Square with a sign reading “Carson, let me up!” and that seeing so many larger-than-life pop stars on the show is what drove her to become what she is now. Of course now he’s kicking himself for not letting her in.

For more stories like this one, tune in to The TRL Decade on VH1 next Sunday, January 29 at 9:30 pm ET/PT.

We’re only four days away from the World Broadcast Premiere of Michael Jackson‘s This Is It, which will air at 9 p.m ET/PT on Monday, November 7 only on VH1. This 2009 documentary film captured MJ as he was preparing for his 50 night stand at London’s O2 Arena, a tour that sadly never came to fruition after Jackson’s untimely passing in June of 2009. Thankfully, though, cameras were rolling during MJ’s extensive rehearsals, which gave fans one last opportunity to experience the magic of his performances and help cope with his tragic loss. Roger Ebert called This Is It an “extraordinary documentary,” and Peter Travers of Rolling Stone described it as an “incredibly intimate look at one of the greatest performers the world has ever seen.”

Monday night’s VH1 Rock Docs presentation of This Is It will be the first time that this unforgettable film has aired on broadcast television. Stay tuned for more Michael Jackson-related content over the next few days, and be sure to follow all the action on Twitter using the hashtag #MJThisIsIt. Don’t forget to tune in on Monday, November 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT to pay witness to the majesty of the King Of Pop in celluloid form.
