Eddie Trunk Of That Metal Show Named One Of The Best Characters On Television
Eddie Trunk, the enthusiastic host of That Metal Show, got a much-deserved nod from Rolling Stone in their list of this season’s Best Characters On Television. The VH1 Classic show is now powering through its eighth season, with no signs of stopping. Sammy Hagar stops by this week: tune in Saturday at 11PM ET. [Rolling Stone]

Facebook Launches Music Partnerships With Spotify And Others
During their F8 keynote today, Facebook announced a slew of music partnerships that will integrate its social elements with the streaming capabilities of Spotify, Soundcloud, Rhapsody, turntable.fm and others, so you can easily see what your friends are streaming and listen along (or be prompted to join whichever service, if you’re not already signed up). The auto-updating timeline/ticker setup inadvertently joins the fight against guilty pleasures, as there doesn’t seem to be a mechanism built in to prevent friends from seeing everything you’ve listened to. Just a few short weeks ago, we brought you an exclusive clip of Ronnie James Dio talking to our own Eddie Trunk on the Black Carpet of the Revolver Golden Gods Awards (airing this Saturday, May 22). Dio spoke bravely about the chemotherapy he had been enduring, as well as his desire to get back on the road and play again for his fans. Sadly, Dio passed away yesterday at the age of 67 after a valiant fight against stomach cancer.

Last night, Eddie Trunk posted the following remembrance on his Trunk Report blog:

This is a blog post I truly wish I was not writing. My hands are shaking on the keyboard, so excuse the typos. I lost a dear friend today, someone who I loved way beyond just the brilliant music he gave the world for decades.

Sadly, it has been confirmed that Ronnie James Dio has lost his battle with cancer. In my 27 years in the business, I have never met anyone like Ronnie. I am fully aware of people that I deal with, and people that deal with me, because it’s the business and what we do, but Ronnie was way beyond that. Nobody ever gave me the public show of support and respect back like Ronnie, and our friendship went way beyond the business.

That Metal Show is coming to Los Angeles to film its fifth season, and we’re looking for hardcore L.A. metal fans to be in the audience for our shows! More info than you can bang your head against on attending a taping is below, courtesy of the show’s producers…

You wanted more metal, we’re giving you more metal! VH1 Classic’s That Metal Show is back and ready for another season of celebrating all things hard rock and heavy metal. Hosted by Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine and Don Jamieson, That Metal Show is a 30-minute round-table talk show where legends of rock hang out and discuss their past and current projects, all the while interacting with the metal maniacs that make up our studio audience. Once again, we’ll be settling all metal arguments, trying to Stump the Trunk, and we’ll be tracking down artists who vanished from the metal scene. That Metal Show is quite simply the only on-air destination for the greatest genre of music ever created.

Filming dates: April 9, April 12, April 13 and April 15 (Note: We will film 2 shows each day. You must stay for both show tapings.)
Time: 3 PM
Location: Los Angeles, CA (Exact location given upon ticket confirmation)
(Note: The total check in and tape time for the tapings will be approximately three to four hours.)

As this is a television taping, all shows are overbooked. (That’s standard for any show.) Audience members will be allowed in on a first come, first served basis.

We are extending this special, complimentary ticket offer to Los Angeles fans of metal!

Want tickets? Here’s how:

Email thatmetalshow@gothamcasting.com. Include your picture, name, phone, email address in the body of the email. Type the number of tickets you’re requesting and the date of show in subject line of your email (example: “ 2 tickets 4/12″). Also include guest names if you have any. (You are allowed to bring up to two guests — additional tickets upon availability only.)

Note: There are no hard tickets, you will be put on a VIP security list upon confirmation.

Duff McKagan stops by to chat with Eddie Trunk and the boys. Their subjects: Velvet Revolver‘s new lead singer and the shadow Guns N’ Roses still casts over the bassist. See what he has to say. And stay for the entire show, because Lemmy from Motorhead shares some tea and crumpets in the way that only he can.

The buzz around Anvil! The Story of Anvil gets louder by the week – seems hardcore metal heads and lots of other rockers have fallen for the story of the Canadian band who just wouldn’t say die. The film hits theaters on April 10th, and VH1 News caught up with the guys as they their did their thing down at the South by Southwest festival a couple of weeks ago. This week the boys chew the fat with the leaders of the reformed Extreme, Gary Charone and Nuno Bettencourt. And they debate the impact iTunes has had on loud rock albums. Check the above clip.

Every Saturday night hosts Eddie Trunk, Jim Florentine and Don Jamison debate modern music issues and classic music heroes; every week they bring out a guest or two as well. The show airs on VH1 Classic on Saturdays at 11 pm ET. If you’ve got a question for ‘em about a long lost metal band, they just might answer it.

ATTENTION HEAVY METAL HOTTIES!!!

VH1 Classic’s That Metal Show is looking for a very pretty lady to be the program’s “Box of Junk” girl. She will be featured in each episode, holding the trivia-prize box during the show’s “Stump the Trunk” segment (check the above clip for our host Eddie Trunk‘s rock trivia skills). It’s like being a Deal or No Deal girl, but with a lot more metal!

Of course we’re looking for someone who’s smoking hot, comfortable in front of the camera, and most importantly, looks good holding handing out weird prizes. Pick up a box and run to a mirror. Do you look good? Then you’re in the running. The auditions take place in New York on February 2 at 345 Hudson Street, 2nd floor. They start at 12 noon. Bring valid photo ID – Head shots and resume too, if you have them. Definitely bring your arms, because we’ll be seeing how good you look holding a box of junk. Contact Mike@GothamCasting.com. See you there.

SPEAKING OF THE TRUNKMEISTER…

NYC-based fans of That Metal Show are encouraged to participate in “Eddie Trunk Day,” Saturday, February 7th, @ the Vintage Vinyl in Fords NJ. Our hero will be there signing autographs and handing out a bunch of giveaways.
